Thank you for your patience as we navigate the changing regulations, mandates and guidelines which mean continuous modifications to our plans. Please continue to be patient, as we anticipate that we may have to make additional provisions in the coming weeks.

As stated, we are continuing to work diligently, seeking legal counsel on how to open with in-person learning—SAFELY, while simultaneously preparing for remote learning if we are compelled to do so.

It is our hope and goal to serve ALL of our families in the best way possible for THEM, knowing that every family’s situation is unique, with different levels of concern. Our MISSION remains the same, no matter what the circumstances—to partner WITH our parents to love and educate your children so they can become men and women of virtue, wisdom, purpose and courage.

Back to School Plans

Back-to-School Events (happening regardless of whether school is in-person, hybrid, or remote)

We will still have our scheduled Back-to-School events, with some modifications:

Upper school book pick-up will have staggered times for grades; masks required
Dedication/Orientation Night will be held on our campus and parents will have the option to sit socially distanced with masks in our courtyard, or parents can stay in their cars in the parking lot and tune into our FM transmitter, we will also livestream the event for parents who are staying at home.
Meet Your Teacher Day will be spread out over two days with staggered times
First Day of School will be staggered
Minimum Days will allow for additional cleaning, staff training, checking-in/assessment of how the plan is working, making adjustments as necessary. For in-person learning, every other Wednesday will be a minimum day. If we move to Remote learning, every Wednesday is a minimum day.

Scenario #1 - Return to Campus in Person on/about August 20-24th

SCENARIO #1 — Return to Campus in person on/about August 20-24th

This is our PREFERRED scenario
We have been working diligently to prepare our campus for safety for our students and faculty/staff
Mitigations include:

1. Deep “Covid-19” cleaning, an EPA-approved cleaning which is effective for 90 days. This microbicrobial cleaning eliminates COVID-19 germs from surfaces. It will been sprayed throughout the interior of the building on all surfaces, and will also be applied to balls, play equipment, tables and benches, etc. The cleaning will be repeated every 45 to 90 days.
2. Increased changing of HVAC filters and service
3. Air purifiers in every classroom
4. Study/instruction areas outside so classes can be taught in multiple sections.
5. Directional hallway traffic and spacing between students as they travel to/from classes, recess, lunch. Students will utilize multiple doors for entry/exit
6. Staggered recess/brunch/lunch times
7. Cross-ventilation/fresh air wherever allowed
8. Multiple daily wipe-downs/cleanings of door knobs, desks, play equipment, lunch areas, bathrooms, common areas
9. Sanitation stations throughout the campus with anti-bacterial lotion—we are installed 50 wall-mounted, refillable stations located in classrooms and common areas.
10. Supervised hand washing for younger students several times per day
11. Individual use of pencils, pens, scissors, books, study partitions, glue sticks, folders and other school supplies
12. Spread out desks, maximizing space between student desks. Individual desks have been purchased. All desks facing forward.
13. “Cohorting” groups—keeping students together with their class to avoid interactions with other students not in their grade/class
14. Sneeze guard/protective shield between teachers and students
15. Enhanced nurse’s station, expanded sick policy, extended training for teachers
16. Mask protocols per guidelines from the CDC and LA County Dept of Health—as well as REGULAR reminders to students about masks, touching each other, hand washing, etc.
17. Individual mitigation plans for students who need extra protection. Working with parents and students who need extra emotional support. As always, we will work with every family who has additional concerns and/or needs additional support.
18. Daily temperature checks — we are formulating protocol

Options for families who are not comfortable with this plan:

1. If you are not comfortable with returning to in-person instruction in any capacity for the entire school year—we are encouraging families to explore the option of our ISP (Libertas), and we will help guide you towards curricula that most closely mirror what we are doing on campus. We will retain your student’s spot at Trinity and you will receive PRIORITY re-enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year.

2. If you would like to retain your child’s spot for this school year, but are not ready to return until second semester (January 2021), we have an online option for 6th-12th grade students. Your student will retain their enrollment at Trinity, and we will give credit for those classes. If your student is in grades TK-5th grades, students can keep pace with the class through homework packets and have regular zoom check-ins with TAs and/or teachers.

3. For families who need a shorter amount of time (up to several weeks), we will work with those students in the capacity of an “extended absence” where we will provide assignments and extra support so that students will not fall behind.

Scenario #2 - Mandated Remote Learning

In this scenario, we will be offering remote learning to our students due to mandates from our government. Although we do not prefer this option, we are hopeful that this will be TEMPORARY.

All teachers will be teaching from their classrooms
ALL students will be required to be in their uniforms, ready to start the day at 8 am via Google classroom
Increased expectations all around
Lower school students will receive daily all-class instructional time, with smaller groups led by TA’s
Upper school students will have 90-minute periods with protocols for attendance, participation, assignments, academic integrity

Options for families who are not comfortable with this plan:

Scenario #3 - Hybrid Based on Waiver

In this scenario, we may be allowed to have on-campus learning for certain ages/grades or learning groups (K-6th, TK/K only, Imago Dei).
We may be allowed to have outdoor classrooms, or a limited time on campus.
This scenario will based on the mandates, waivers or regulations from the County and/or state. Most likely this will be temporary.
All protocols and options previously listed will also be available in this scenario.

Grammar School - Message from Mr. Richardson

Hello, Parents of Grammar School Students,

I pray this email finds you well and rested, even in the midst of all this season’s unknowns.

As Mrs. Caddow has communicated, we are looking forward to the start of school and are anticipating being able to begin the school year in-person and on-campus. Though this is our anticipation, we are also very aware that the current situation is very fluid, and our anticipation may not be attainable.

What follows are the things that you can expect of our teachers as well as your student(s) in the event that we either begin the school year with remote learning or have to migrate to it at some point in the school year. Please note that these expectations are very different from those we adopted last year, and we realize there will be a transition period for faculty, parents, and students.

Our hope in adjusting our remote learning requirements is that Trinity will be offering a more robust instruction focused on our mission and in line with our pedagogical goals, while also being mindful of the increase in screen time and student responsibility that these expectations will require.

What you can expect from faculty during remote learning:

● All teachers will be instructing from their classrooms via Zoom.

● Attendance will be taken promptly at 8:00, followed by live instruction.

● Grammar School will be utilizing Google Classroom and each student will have his/her own email address and account.

● Each classroom will have a single Zoom meeting for the entire school day, and auxiliary teachers will teach from the homeroom.

● While teachers may occasionally utilize recordings and videos, Zoom will be the primary mode of teaching.

● Teachers will provide a number of breaks throughout the day for resting the eyes from the screen, using the restroom, eating snacks/lunch, and getting exercise.

● Every Wednesday will be a minimum day in order to allow students extended time away from their screens in the middle of the week.

● Homework will mostly consist of reading and studying.

Student expectations for remote learning:

● As faculty are expected to be in proper attire, so our students will be required to attend each class in their school uniforms.

● Students are to be seated at a work space, with their school materials.

● Students are not permitted to eat during class time.

● Students are not permitted to use cell phones or to chat with other students during class time.

● All students are to log into Zoom with their proper first and last name.

● Students must have their video turned on and the ability to use their audio as appropriate for each class.

● If a student chooses to adjust his/her background, it must be appropriate and he/she cannot change it during class time.

● If a student chooses to ignore these expectations, the teacher will reiterate the broken expectation and remove the student from the Zoom meeting. The student will only be allowed to re-enter the meeting after the teacher has met with the student and parent with a renewed commitment to the expectations.

Please familiarize yourself with these expectations before the return to campus and start of school. If you have any questions or concerns about these expectations, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Hello Parents of Upper School Students,

I pray this email finds you well and rested, even in the midst of all this season’s unknowns.

Expectations for faculty during remote learning:

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class period.
Both Logic School and Rhetoric School classes will run 90 minutes. The loss of 10 minutes from each class period will allow for our students to take longer breaks from their screens and computers. Class start times will be 8:00, 10:00, 12:30, and 2:05.
Each class period and section will have its own Google Classroom.
The primary instruction for each class will be given live daily on Zoom.
Homework standards for remote learning will be similar to in-person instruction.
All work and expectations will be posted in Google Classroom.

Student expectations for remote learning:

As faculty are expected to be in proper attire, so our students will be required to attend each class in their school uniforms.
Students are to be seated at a work space, with their school materials.
Students are not permitted to eat during class time.
Students are not permitted to use cell phones or to chat with other students during class time.

Think of this like our on-campus uniform expectations: students are not permitted to attend on-campus classes when they are not in proper attire. When a student corrects the infraction, they will be allowed to return.

Remote Learning Schedule:

We will use the already published A/B Calendar. An A Day consists of periods 1-3 and a B Day consists of periods 4-6. Period 7 happens daily from 2:05-2:55. On Monday and Fridays, period 7 is an elective class. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Logic School (LS) students have PE. Every Wednesday will be a minimum day with no 7^th period.

Athletics Message

As many of you know, CIF has published the 2020-2021 Sports Calendar for high school athletics. While it presents some challenges for us specifically as a small school, we are pleased to see things moving forward and are encouraged by the fact that the general consensus is that participation in sports is important and beneficial for our student-athletes. In a nutshell, the fall season has been postponed to winter and will officially begin in December. Winter and spring sports will be simultaneously held in the spring from March-June. We are currently working on rescheduling fall, winter, and spring sports and have taken into consideration how this will affect our multi-sport athletes specifically in the spring. Our target start date for in-person practices remains August 31st; however, we will comply with the Los Angeles Department of Public Health (LADPH) and continue to monitor the situation.

For our lower level, TK-8th programs, we are not confined by CIF or the calendar they set forth. The schools from the SCAIL league (Grammar/Logic) have been in communication and desire to begin with sports as soon as we are able to do so. We typically do not begin the fall season until September, and are hopeful that LA County will have opened up some of the restrictions by that time, which would allow us to function in the traditional format of three seasons. At this point in time it is our intention to offer three seasons, without overlap, in the typical fashion. If we do have to push the start date back, we will work on compacting seasons, shortening the length, which will enable us to proceed with the three-season year.

Please know that the safety and well-being of our student-athletes is the priority. We will comply with county health guidelines and will continue to work to ensure responsible operations.

We were encouraged by our fall registration numbers and trust that we will be successful in our athletic endeavors even though things look a little different. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we daily consider how to best manage the changes that occur. It is a joy to serve our families in the midst of this challenging time. We wholeheartedly believe the Lord is in control of each and every piece.

How will teachers manage students who have sensory issues in the classroom? (Example: they are touching their hair, face or noses and then touching other students and equipment)

We will provide visual reminders throughout the school for physical distancing, as well as frequent verbal reminders for students. Equipment will be treated with the 90-day COVID spray as well as being wiped down between each recess/play time. All students will be required to wash hands frequently and when entering the building after recess/brunch/lunch. Sanitization stations are being installed in 50 locations.

How many Playground supervisors will be on hand per student?

Balls - how will you mitigate them?

How will classrooms be laid out? Will desks be equipped with shields similar to test taking screens?

Spreading out desks, desks facing forward, cleared out excess furniture, utilizing outdoor meeting spaces with TAs, purchased individual desks, Cohorting (keeping same group of students together where we can), in room air purifiers, sneeze guards for teachers in every classroom, individual screens for grammar school students (the same as the test taking screens currently being used, new for each student and assigned individually

Doxology and chapels - will they happen?

Extra curricular Uniforms, benches, balls, practices and games...how will this look?

Drinking fountains should not be used, correct?

Can the ventilation system be tested for Covid?

Will there be air purifiers on class room?

Temperature taking before entering school? (knowing parents can medicate before school and temps can rise)

Will there be counseling available for students, given the emotional impact of this virus coupled with returning to school and the rigors of Trinity’s curriculum?

Will there be an assessment of some sorts to see where students are academically after working remotely and having summer (and possibly fall) off from school?

Kindergarten — how will nap time be accommodated?

Is there a plan for reduced tuition, if there is no in-classroom instruction?

COVID-19 FAQs (answered by Nurse Critser)

How is COVID-19 spread?

Covid-19 is spread through close contact or by touching an object or surface with the virus on it.

The best protection is to: wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Self-isolate if you are sick. Quarantine if you have had close contact with someone with Covid-19. Practice physical distancing. Wear a face covering. People who have symptoms of Covid-19 or who have been in close contact with someone with Covid-19 should get a test.

what are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Most common Symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. Any student presenting with these symptoms or those that have had close contact with someone diagnosed with or suspected to have Covid-19 are to home quarantine for 10 days from the date of exposure. If this happens while on campus, staff will be asked to return home immediately and students will be isolated in the designated sick area which is in the relocated health office. They will be picked up immediately and will use the designated exit so that they do not pass through the hallways with other students and staff.

Will Trinity shut down if there is an outbreak?

An outbreak is defined as: At least 3 laboratory-confirmed cases from different households with symptomatic or asymptomatic COVID-19 over a 14-day period within a school group that is linked. *School groups include persons that share a common membership at school (e.g., classroom, school event, school extracurricular activity, academic class, sport teams, clubs, transportation). Links require the infected persons to have been present at some point in the same setting during the same time period while infectious. LA county Public health has an order for exposure management for K-12 schools that we will be utilizing. For specific information please see this form at their website.

This could mean a short term closure for cleaning or for a longer period determined by the Public Health Department.

when is someone considered infectious?

A person is considered to be infectious for 48 hours before their symptoms first appeared until the time they are no longer required to be isolated, which is no fever for at least 24 hours, AND respiratory systems have improved AND at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared. A person with a positive Covid-19 test, but no symptoms is considered to be infectious from 48 hours before their test was taken until 10 days after their test.

how do i know if i was exposed?

A person is considered to have been exposed if they are one of the following: an individual who was within 6 feet of the infected person for more than 15 minutes, even if a non-medical face covering was worn. Or an individual who had unprotected contact with the infected person’s body fluids and or secretions of a person with confirmed or suspected Covid-19 (being coughed or sneezed on, sharing utensils or saliva, or providing care without using appropriate protective equipment.) Students and employees that are identified to have an exposure to the case are notified through a letter and/or a telephone call. Exposed students and employees who are unvaccinated will be instructed to quarantine for 10 days since last exposure.

What do I do if I think I've been exposed to COVID-19?

If you are unvaccinated and think you have been exposed to Covid-19

You need to stay in quarantine for 10 days from when you last had close contact with the infectious person. The infected person should follow Home Isolation Instructions for People with COVID-19.
If you continue to live with or care for the infected person, the amount of time you have to quarantine depends on the type of contact that you have - find the situation that is most like yours in the section “How do I calculate the end date of my quarantine period” at the end of this guidance.
If you don’t know when you were exposed to the infected person and you received a Public Health Emergency Quarantine Order, your last day of quarantine is 10 days from the date the order was issued.

How will absences and sick leave change during this time?

Any student or staff member with symptoms that are consistent with Coivid-19 are to stay home. Individuals are to stay home until at least 10 days have passed after symptoms first appeared and at least 24 hours after recovery; which means their fever is gone for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication and respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath) have improved.
