Over spring break, 39 Rhetoric School students, along with staff and parent chaperones built not one, but TWO houses for very deserving families in Mexico. Although we had originally planned to only build one house, we had so many students sign up to go that we decided to double our work so two families could receive homes!
We had to ask for additional donations in order to accomplish this, but because of the amazing support we received from our families and friends, we more than covered the construction costs. With the additional donations, we were able to supply both families with extras such as: beds, beautifully crafted dining tables, food staples that will last them over a month, and a 200-gallon water tank which will substantially improve their ability to buy water more economically and store it in a clean and safe container.
We also provided a community Vacation Bible School and lunch for over 50 children. Most importantly, we gave hope and love to an entire community that wants to know and love Jesus. The families were living below a level of subsistence and are now at or above that level. This is life-changing not only for their immediate needs, but also for future generations. Our students were the literal the manifestation of Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans not for despair, but plans to give you hope and future". We thank everyone who prayed for us, donated to our mission trip and offered encouragement. We hope to see more missionaries next year!
