The Trinity Knights Girls Volleyball team will play for the first-ever CIF volleyball championship. The Knights will face Oakwood (North Hollywood) on Saturday, Nov. 9th at Oakwood.
After securing the Heritage League title, the Knights (20-9, 11-1 league) began their playoff run with a 3-0 win over Arroyo of El Monte and a 3-0 win over Geffen Academy. In the quarterfinals, the Knights had to battle to a 3-2 win over Bishop Diego of Santa Barbara for the first berth into the semi-finals. There they met St. Bernard of Playa Del Rey. The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the match and St. Bernard fought back to tie 2-2. With a trip to the finals on the line, the Knights played an inspired 5th game to take the match 3-2.
Coach Rebecca Peluffo talked about preparation for this big game. "Overall, we are sticking to the game plan we have had against all our opponents: playing together and trusting each other on the court, serving tough, being aggressive on offense and defense, and controlling our first ball touches. Specifically for this team, we will need to shut down some of their big hitters and find a way to execute in transitions."
This is the first time in school history that the Knights have made a CIF Volleyball final and the first CIF finals appearance for a Trinity girls team. They will be playing on Saturday for a championship in the CIF-SS, Division 8. The game is at Oakwood School in North Hollywood at 5:00 pm.
