Grammar School Music / Imago Dei Music Therapy / Choir / Bells / Chimes

Email: jbrown@trinityclassicalacademy.com

Shortly after Mrs. Brown graduated high school in 1990, she heard about the field of Music Therapy. She knew almost immediately that it was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, as it would combine her love for people with her love for music!

Within our Imago Dei setting, Mrs. Brown uses music as the tool to help facilitate social interaction, as well as goals and objectives to increase expressive and receptive language, fine and gross motor skills and increase peer interaction and play skills.  Mrs. Brown also uses music and the music activities to remind her students that they were all created in God’s image, and they too, can worship Him with all of their hearts, minds, bodies and souls!

Mrs. Brown was hired in 2007 as Trinity’s choir director, and later started the handbell elective and was asked to be the Grammar School music teacher. While she loves teaching general music to all of the grammar school students, she holds a special place in her heart for the ability to be the on-site music therapist for Trinity’s Imago Dei School.

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

A former teacher, Michelle Hanson heard Mrs. Howell’s vision of classical, Christian special education and was instantly inspired to join the Imago Dei team in its first year. Since then there’s been no looking back. Although Mrs. Hanson possesses a passion for teaching classical literature to Imago Dei students and witnessing them engage with classics like, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, “The Iliad” and “The Odyssey”, she has also been instrumental in developing the community based education and transitional program in the Imago Dei 7-12th grade classes. Mrs. Hanson loves inspiring the students toward independence through helping them learn in the community, master the public transit system and gain vocational experience through volunteering in the community and working at jobs on and off campus.

Mrs. Hanson knows that the Imago Dei school is blazing a trail by successfully blending special education with classical, Christian education and she finds the following quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson inspiring, “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” Mrs. Hanson and her husband live in Castaic with their two sons who attend Trinity.
