The Trinity Story

In just our 9th year, Trinity is transforming the Santa Clarita education landscape

Liz Caddow, founder and Head of School, addresses the Trinity student body on the
first day of school, 2009.

Trinity Classical Academy was founded with a vision to provide a rigorous, college preparatory education, steeped in the classical tradition, taught through a distinctly Christian worldview.

Though a daunting task, that dream became a mission, and from the start God was with us. He brought passionate people to Trinity and provided expert guidance from people who had also started Christian schools. He gave our founding leadership a vision for a K-12 school that would be a shining light in the Santa Clarita valley.

After several years of planning we opened in 2001 with only 26 students in kindergarten through 2nd grade. We were small and humble, but from the first day it was apparent that there was something distinctive and exciting about our school. Students were learning at an amazing pace and they were learning about God every step of the way.

Word began to spread that there was a new Christian school in town that was producing amazing results. New families began to enroll. Each year we added another grade level, and each year more families came. In 2006, the demand grew so much that we had to add another
kindergarten class and now we have two tracks in kindergarten through 3rd.

Trinity has grown to 275 students in grades kindergarten through 10th grade for the 2009-10 school year. Our consultants from Paideia Inc., who have helped hundreds of Christian schools get started, are astounded. They tell us they have never seen a Christian school grow so rapidly while staying so true to their original vision. We were thrilled to open our high school last year and with our current rate of growth, we expect that by 2017 we will have two classes each in grades   K-12. This would bring our enrollment to over 600 students, making us one of the largest Classical Christian schools in the country.

Our new state-of-the-art school facility is located on the new NorthPark Community Church campus. We are enjoying the expansive classrooms and recreation areas and we look forward to phase 2 of the campus which will include a gym and additional classrooms.

All of us at Trinity feel truly fortunate to be a part of something that God is so richly blessing. We realize that there are a number of educational options available to parents and we feel honored that so many are choosing Trinity for their children’s schooling.

So what is it that makes Trinity different and distinctive from those other education options?

A Christian worldview is taught throughout all our subject areas. We strive for an integration of faith and learning where God is revealed not only in theology and Bible classes, but also in math, science, history, literature and all scholastic disciplines.

The classical tradition of teaching at Trinity makes us distinct as well. It is a time-honored method of teaching that has been a staple in Western culture and the Church since the second century. Students see God’s ‘big picture’ by studying history, philosophy, literature, art, theology, math and science as well as logic and rhetoric.

Our outstanding, dedicated faculty is comprised of of passionate, devoted, Christian teachers who truly love teaching and who understand the goals of classical, Christian education. They come to us with numerous advanced degrees, a wealth of experience and are some of the most accomplished academics in Santa Clarita education. In addition to our core subjects, we have dedicated faculty who teach art, music, physical education and Latin as well as teachers for drama, yearbook, student leadership and math enrichment classes.

Trinity offers a wealth of enrichment opportunities in addition to the classroom experience to nurture the mind, body and soul. We have a Trinity orchestra and choir, a newly formed worship team as well as a chess team and a hiking club. Our elementary and junior high sports teams compete in various local leagues which include flag football, basketball, golf, cross country, volleyball, soccer, swimming and cheer leading. This  year, our high school sports program became members of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and we are thrilled to field 6 new high school sports teams: 8-man football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball.

Cultivating wisdom is the emphasis  at Trinity rather than just teaching facts and skills. There is a pervasive feeling of inspiration, fulfillment, joy and respect on the Trinity campus.

Students enjoy school at Trinity. Perhaps one of  the most pleasant by-products of a Trinity education is that we continually hear from parents that their children love coming to school! They find education exhilarating and challenging and we think that is a key component in building lifelong learners.

Reaching out to our valley is vital. While Trinity has experienced unparalleled growth and tremendous success over these past few years, we do not feel our mission is accomplished by just educating our own students excellently and serving only Trinity families. It is our hope that Trinity continues  to be an inspiration to the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond. Trinity events such as our Distinguished Speaker Series, our Spring Gala, our annual WorshipFest music concert and our annual Golf Classic are just a few of the ways we can share fun, exciting, God-honoring experiences with our valley. Through these special events we seek to entertain, enrich, educate and give back to our great community which has been such a tremendous support to us since our founding.

At Trinity we are pressing on to  fulfill our mission to produce young scholars who can read well, write well and speak well and who are imbued with virtue, wisdom, purpose, and courage. We care deeply about raising up this current generation to become dynamic, humble, Christian leaders who will help shape the future.

We invite you and your family to become a part of Trinity and experience a renaissance in education that is unfolding right here in Santa Clarita.   Remarkable things are happening at Trinity and we want your family to join us on this extraordinary  journey!
