February 13, 2018 – Last week, several Trinity students showed up to the Santa Clarita Sports Complex to play floor hockey with the Special Olympics team.
Trinity athletes have been volunteering their time to participate in “scrimmages” with the Special Olympic athletes for over a decade in basketball. Recently, coach Donald Zennie of the Special Olympics men’s adult floor hockey team reached out to see if we could bring some Trinity student athletes to work out against his floor hockey team.
The Trinity students received a crash course in the rules of floor hockey. The game was fast paced and everyone had a great time. Coach Donald Zennie said, “We really needed to get worked hard and your players brought great energy all night. I think both teams slept very well last night! For sure, it will help us for our first tournament this Saturday. Not only did your players work hard all game, they exhibited terrific sportsmanship…a very classy group and a fine example of Trinity!”
Trinity will again participate in our annual basketball scrimmage against them in May.
Trinity student athletes who participated were Kathryn Brooks, Hobbs Christopher, Andrew Dever, Noah Mestas, Monet LaFrance, Tyler Lee & Gregory Salazar.
