Trinity HS Girls Soccer Gets Decisive First-Ever Win! Feb. 3, 2010
Beth Weil led the Lady Knights with 4 goals in a 7-0 victory over Ojai Valley.
| The Trinity Knights recorded their first win of the season, and in the history of the high school soccer program, with a 7-0 thrashing of the Ojai Valley Spuds. Sophomore Beth Weil led the Knights' onslaught with a stunning four goals, scoring from long drives, close tap-ins, and even a corner kick.
The Knights started the game brightly, pressuring the Spuds defense from the moment the whistle blew. Freshman Julia Howell began the flood of goals in the game's first five minutes. Howell and sophomore Felicia Krol crashed the Ojai Valley penalty box and, after pinging the ball around, struck it home for a 1-0 lead.
With goalkeeper Kaeli Massetto and sophomores Rachel Horner and Emily Sagardia anchoring the defense, the Knights denied Ojai Valley any clear sight of goal. Freshmen Ariel Towery, Emily Chebul, and Gayane Allen patrolled the middle of the field, cutting off Ojai's attack and battling hard in a tough, physical half. Weil and Howell each added goals later in the first half, aided by the hard running and neat passing of Emily Kim, as the Knights took a 3-0 lead to halftime. Despite the goal difference, Ojai Valley started the second half strongly and took the opening kickoff down the field to produce a shot just wide of the net. After weathering the initial storm, Trinity eventually responded with four consecutive goals, capped off by Felicia Krol's agile turn in the box to stab home a cross.
As the season draws to a close, the Knights will look to continue their hot form with a victory against Westmark School on Monday.

Lady Knights Record Another Tough Loss at PacificaJan. 11, 2010
A trip to Santa Monica earned the Trinity Knights another tough loss as they could not muster an equalizer against the Pacifica Christian Sea Wolves, falling 2-1.
The physical, hotly-contested contest see-sawed back and forth in the first half, with each team creating a number of goalscoring opportunities. Through a pair of quick breakaways, Pacifica built a 2-0 lead midway through the half. But with freshmen midfielders Julia Howell and Ariel Towery flying across the whole field, relentlessly disrupting the opposition's attacks and pressing forward, Trinity continued to threaten Pacifica's goal.
Early in the second half, the pressure paid off, as sophomore forward Beth Weil blasted a shot into the upper corner of the net following a brilliant series of passes started by sophomore Felicia Krol and freshman Emily Kim. With central defenders Rachel Horner and Emily Sagardia cutting off Pacifica's point of attack and instigating the offense, the Knights pushed the Sea Wolves deeper and deeper into their own half. Weil unleashed two long-range strikes that were foiled superbly by Pacifica's goalkeeper.
Despite laying siege to Pacifica's goal throughout the final ten minutes, the referee's whistle cut the Knights' rally short before the tying goal could be found.
Frustrated by back-to-back close losses, Trinity's JV squad will look to earn revenge and their first win against the Westmark Lions on Jan. 20th in Encino.

Girls HSJV Soccer Shows Marked Improvement against WestmarkJan. 7, 2010
After battling back and forth in a fast-paced match, the Trinity Knights could not finish off a spirited comeback against the Westmark Lions, falling 4-3 at the Lions' home field in Encino.
A closely-fought contest saw Westmark go up 1-0 in the game's 20th minute, only for Julia Howell to equalize minutes later. After robbing the Lions of possession in their own half, Howell burst through a seam in the midfield and unleashed a long-range drive that swerved out of the goalkeeper's reach, scoring Trinity's first goal of the season. Westmark then answered back with a stunning free kick to the far post that left goalkeeper Kaeli Massetto with no chance to stop the shot.
Early in the second half, however, Howell again tied up the score after scrapping for the ball at midfield and powering a shot past the 'keeper. Yet again, the deadlock was broken soon after when defensive lapses allowed Westmark to score a pair of goals in quick succession. But with 15 minutes to play, a scramble for the ball in Westmark's box saw Emily Kim finally bundle the ball home to bring the Knights within one. Kim, playing with a wrist injury sustained in the first half, stabbed the ball home after a well-orchestrated attack involving striker Felicia Krol and Julia Howell pushed deep into Westmark's defense.
Despite several players being sidelined by injury throughout the course of the game, the Knights continued to press for a final goal. But the Lions' defense stood firm to repel several attacks and breakaways, their goalkeeper being forced into critical saves twice in the final ten minutes.

Trinity's First-Ever Match Against a Local Public School!
Dec. 10, 2009
Trinity's second match of the season ended with a hard-fought 3-0 defeat against the West Ranch Wildcats. This was the first time a Trinity team has faced a local public school in any sport on any level.
After conceding an early goal in the tenth-minute, the Knights' defense locked down and kept the match close despite being under siege for most of the game. Goalkeeper Kaeli Massetto led the defensive effort, rebounding from an ankle injury sustained in the first game of the season to produce double-digits saves in the first half alone.
After the halftime break, the Knights began to produce some pressure and forced some excellent defensive play from West Ranch, thanks to the hard running of Julia Howell and Emily Kim, and the passing of Felicia Krol and Beth Weil.
But despite the efforts of Rachel Horner and Emily Sagardia in the heart of the defense, the Knights could not deny West Ranch any longer and conceded two goals in the match's final minutes.
